Last week was an awesome week! System Center Universe (SCU) Europe is over and I had a great time. SCU Europe is THE event all around System Center. Like last year, SCU took place in Basel, Switzerland and it was the perfect event to catch up with good friends, meet new people and share the passion for System Center.
SCU offered 4 parallel tracks with more than 60 sessions for more than 400 attendees. All sessions were recorded and will be available soon on Channel9. So during the day I could enjoy great content from friends and MVP colleagues and in the evening there was always an opportunity to network and have fun at various parties.
Since I’m a SCOM and a bit of an SCSM guy, I mostly attended sessions about those products. In addition there were also great sessions about automation and OMS – which I also enjoyed very much.
The sponsors and expo area was also packed with lots of great sponsors. Savision, who also sponsored a System Center User Group meeting in Austria was present and it was great to meet them finally in person.
The best sponsor session for me was SquaredUp’s Whiskey tasting session. A fun and tasty talk about SCOM Dashboards, a couple of really great Whiskeys and some embarrasing stories (for Richard of SquaredUp) related to those Whiskeys. Great concept!
On the last day, I had the honor to deliver a “sexy” SCOM talk with my good friend Stefan Roth from itnetX (I’m the small guy on the left ;)).
In our talk we showed in more than 30 slides what you can do with SCOM using different products, tools, management packs and also shared many tips and tricks around SCOM. We had the “big” room and I was really overwhelmed with the number of attendees in our session. Not sure how many attendees were in the room but it was pretty filled up. It clearly shows that SCOM is still a VERY relevant product and I really was blown away to learn that everyone in the room is using SCOM in their company. Only one (!) attendee claimed that he knew already everything we showed – which is really great! I myself learned a lot just preparing the talk. So there was at least one real “Pro” in the room…
The conference ended with an awesome closing keynote. Marcel (from itnetX), who also organized the event, had two Tesla’s on the stage. He and his friend showed how to “remote control” and how to monitor the Tesla using a PowerShell module and SCOM. This was by far the coolest thing I’ve seen.
SCU Europe was really a highlight for me. I’m looking forward to SCU Europe in Berlin next year (August 24th to August 26th). Marcel and the staff of itnetX organized an awesome event and I’m really happy to be part of it. Thanks again to itnetX for having me and I hope to see you all next year again…
