Stefan,

I try to use a private key newly generated with PuTTY Key Generator (RSA 2048 w/ passphrase) but when I try to connect to a server it crash RTS with a message:

RTS Bug w/ PuTTY key

Additionnaly, I noticed that the Passphrase field (thas is not a password field so you can see the passphrase cheeky) in the connection properties isn't stored and is empty when you reopen the property dialog...

You may have received 2 bug reports for this wink (the first with an OpenSSH key converted to PuTTY format, the second with the newly created one)

Let me know if you need more infos !

Hi Stefan,

It's better, no more crash if a private key is provided. But unfortunately, I can't login with private key as the passphrase isn't kept in the connection properties :-(

Royal TS Version: 2.1.0.10321

        Severity: Information
      Time Stamp: 21/03/2012 11:16:31
          Action: Disconnect
         Item ID:
       Item Name:
       Item Type:
      Local User:
      Local Host:
     Remote User:
     Remote Host:
Message: X1RGAAZ - lhPDU disconnected. Connection closed because no passphrase was provided.

Details:

And the passphrase's field in connection properties is not obfuscated cheeky

If you leave the passphrase entry in the properties empty, Royal TS should prompt for them. Can you try that and see if it's working if you enter it manually?

It didn't prompt me for the passphrase and the message in the logs is the same "Connection closed because no passphrase was provided."

I've tried 3 cases:

  • Key with a passphrase, passphrase set in properties
  • Key with a passphrase, no passphrase set in properties
  • Key without a passphrase

... for all, same result frown

My results are pretty similar - can't establish a connection using PuTTY's .ppk files, either with or without a passphras (it appears that the passphrase isn't saved - at least if I type it in, click OK and re-open connection properties, the field is empty again). Additionally, while the first few times when I tried establishing a connection RoyalTS did ask me for credentials, it has now stopped doing that, and I can't seem to get that back.

This makes testing SSH much harder for me, as I've got exactly 1 server that doesn't need a private key to log on.

Hi Ender,

Did you use the lastest build (2.1.10321) or the first with SSH?
Credentials are set in the connection properties or in a separate credential object ?

I use the build 10321 and I've tried to reconfigure my connection from using a .PPK file to credentials only and it ask me for login and password if the credentials fileds are empty ...

Build 10321, and you're right - if private key file is selected, RoyalTS doesn't ask for username.

Accepted Answer

This should now work with the latest build (according to Nicolas).
